Referrals & Fees
Referrals & Medicare:
John Blythe Child Psychology is a registered service provider under Medicare. Children and/or their parents referred to us under a GP Mental Health Plan, or by a paediatrician or psychiatrist, may receive up to 12 treatment sessions per year subsidised by Medicare. Medicare referrals must be initiated by your doctor, JBCP cannot initiate or organise a referral. If you do not have the appropriate referral at the time of consultation, you will not be able to claim a rebate for that visit. Under the rules of Medicare you must pay the full fee at the time of consultation and then take your invoice to a Medicare office to receive your rebate. Please Note: Medicare does not cover diagnostic assessments or reports (with the exception of some rebates for autism diagnostic assessments with an appropriate referral).
All your out-of-pocket expenses (or gap fees) incurred at JBCP count towards your families Medicare Safety Net for the calendar year. The Medicare Safety Net is designed to help by providing greater rebates once you reach your safety net threshold. Typically, Medicare will refund 80% of all future gap fee payments once your family reach their threshold in a calendar year. Cost of Service:
The recommended fee, set by The Australian Psychological Society, for a standard consultation with a clinical psychologist is $218.00 per 50 minute session. At JBCP we reduce this fee for families in the Blacktown LGA to assist them in accessing our service. Third parties such as Government Departments, Educational Institutions, Insurance companies, etc., are billed at the APS recommended fee. Separate fees also exist for attendance at legal briefings or court proceedings.
Please note:
1. Payment is required at time of consultation.
2. Written reports cannot be released until the appropriate fee has been paid in full.
3. A Tax Invoice will be issued for all charged services. A psychological consultation does not attract GST.
Payment may be made by Cash, EFTPOS, Credit Card (Visa and MasterCard), or Cheque.
JBCP Schedule of Fees & Charges are included in the initial information package sent to all enquiring families.
