Each seminar introduces the key issues related to conceptualisation, assessment, and treatment evidence. The seminars are particularly relevant to caseworkers, educators, family & community workers, nurses and other allied health professionals working with children, adolescents and families.
Seminar 201: Introduction to Childhood Developmental Disorders: This one day workshop provides those working with children, adolescents and families a bird's eye view of emerging changes to the way four common childhood disorders are being understood and treated. Participants will become aware of current assessment, diagnostic, and treatment approaches for: 1. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
2. Autism Spectrum Disorder
3. Oppositional Defiant & Conduct Disorders
4. Attachment Disorders in Maltreated Children
FEBRUARY 2012, Monday 27th SYDNEY - OPEN300 Level Seminars: These seminars provide a clinical primer for psychologists and mental health professionals working with children, adolescents and families. Each seminar explores current issues related to conceptualisation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for some of the most challenging and complex childhood psychopathologies. The emphasis is on integrating the findings of recent clinical research into our daily work with children and families.
Seminar 301: DSM-5 in Child & Adolescent Practice - Changes to DSM-IV Conditions: Towards DSM-5 in Child & Adolescent Practice provides the clinician with a bird's eye view of emerging changes to the way common childhood disorders are being conceptualised. By reviewing updated clinical and research findings from the past decade, participants will become aware of the emerging consensus for important changes to child and adolescent psychopathology, as reflected in the diagnostic proposals for DSM-5. The course consists of two sessions (301 and 302) presented over 2 separate days: Session 1: Changes to current DSM-IV conditions. This session surveys the clinical and research
findings which are driving proposed diagnostic and conceptual changes to common DSM-IV
childhood disorders including:
- Pervasive Developmental Disorder / Social Communication Disorder
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Reactive Attachment Disorder
- Specific Learning Disorders (Dyslexia)
- Mental Retardation

- Callous Unemotional specifier for Conduct Disorder
- Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders
